Anyone ever use it? The other day when hunting squirrels the shots rattled my ears and now I feel like I should be using hearing protection.

They, or a similar device, are in my future. Several years ago, I suffered permanent hearing loss in my left ear after hunting crows. Doctor said it was cumulative damage from gunshots that finally brought it to a head. Currently I have constant ringing or tinnitus in my left ear.
Since then, I no longer shoot a firearm without hearing protection in, and that includes while hunting. It has become a pain in the azz to put in ear plugs, or put on muffs when game approaches. Devices such as what you mentioned still allow for normal hearing but block intense sounds.
You are still young. Protect your hearing now when shooting a gun. Even while hunting. I wish I had.

I had a Walker game ear some time ago. I came to the conclusion that it was close to worthless. Too many .44 mag blasts and a .300 Weatherby with a muzze brake did my hearing in. I now have a real hearing aid. I wish I had used hearing protection before all the damage was done. It slowly accumulates, then one day, Ms. Doris says something I don't get. Ah well. As the Amish say, "Ve grow too soon oldt and too late schmart."

My brother was at an auction a while back. Bought one of the dollar boxes. Had two pairs of ear muffs in there, the ones that silence everything when a shot goes off. Man, do those suckers work nice. I will use hearing protection at the range. One shot at an animal is nothing tho.
Man up Stroupy. Lol

Lol I thinkbit was my first shot at a squirrel and it felt like my ear was blocked for a couple minutes. I work in a high volume environment running a metal saw.

My tinnitus seems to be getting worse. Sucks.
Do whatever you need to protect your ears.

My younger brother took magnesium every day for a while when he had ringing in his ears. I think he took it for 2-3 months and stopped. He said it hasn't come back. We where shooters muffs anytime we shoot even .22s. If the muff that stops any loud noise allows you to hear normal sounds fairly well I'd get a pair for hunting.

One shot at an animal is nothing tho. Every shot causes damage. The question is when will that one shot lead to significant permanent loss. Bend a paper clip 10 times and you may be okay, it could break on the 11th.

My one friend lost most of his hearing just before bear season one year. He went to sight in his rife at a range with a tin roof, and as he was bringing his gun in under another hunter, a couple of benches down, fired his rifle, that's all it took. My high pitch has been gone since I was a child. you never bring that back, even with aids. Working around machinery, souped up cars, and aircraft most of my life has ruined the rest. Most insurance policies don't cover hearing lost either, and they aren't cheep. I bought a new 1968 GT Mustang with a 390 4speed when I came home from the Navy, and paid less for it than the hearing aids I have now, probably could of bought a Corvette for less. And no they aren't near as good as the hearing God gave you. Also a pain in the butt to wear. If you work anywhere around or near high noise level, wear the dang muffs or at lease plugs.

My experience with Walker ear muffs is good. I just don’t like wearing them all the time.
They do work very well.
Two events come to mind:
My Son lives next to me (about 2000 feet away). My Grandson asked me one day if I heard the turkeys gobbling in the woods behind the house. He said they had been gobbling every morning for the last several days. I usually sat on the back porch at dawn drinking coffee, but I had not heard the turkeys. The next morning I thought about the turkeys, and put my Walker ear muffs on. Son-of-a-gun! A gobbler sounded off in the woods and about knocked me out of my chair. A shocking reminder of how much I was missing.
The other experience that was enlightening, was one morning headed out to the treestand I put the muffs on. I was shocked to hear how much noise I was making walking through the grass! Walking on the lawn sounded like walking through dry leaves in a fall woods. No wonder the deer can hear us.
They do work very well.

The Benoit family always preached to be very very quiet when tracking a deer. When they first started make videos, one of them said they were all surprised on how much noise they were actually making, while tracking.

I'm going to sit up high in some open woods, just above where I shot Notch. Two reasons now, I want to be out of the way of others, and I need cell reception on Monday if the lawyer for the estate needs to call. What a joke. Monday is the day they file financial statements with the court.

I hope you do a review of their performance if you wear hunting this season, stroup. The thing I notice most about my hearing is that it has become harder for me to tell which direction sounds are coming from.

The thing I notice most about my hearing is that it has become harder for me to tell which direction sounds are coming from. Yep. Same here. Since I have more loss in my left ear since I am right handed, the directional reception abilities we normally have is decreased if one side is not the same as the other. I also can't hear certain frequency sounds very well. Others are fine. Another thing is if there is a lot of background noise, I have a difficult time hearing conversation even from someone right next to me.

The muffs are not pricey but the ones that look like hearing aids are. I would like to try the hearing aid style. Another brand to look at for the hearing aid style is SportEar.
