Red, if the reason I stated for the change of opening day is not correct, please explain to me why you have no problem telling stroupy to tell his buddy to just wait for the next Sat., but waiting till the next Sat. is somehow not good enough for you and your college kids, and all the other hunters who can't hunt on Mon.

I seriously doubt there are many college classes on any Sat. If a college kid really wanted to hunt he would come home on any Sat. Keep trying to defend the indefensible, and admit the real reason it was changed.

Kinda brisk in the stand I sat this morning. A fork horn showed up at 7:00, a 12" wide six point about 15 minutes later, and a spike around 8:30. All were within 12 yards. The spike seemed a little scared and gave everything a good look from a thick patch of grape vines before he stepped out with his tail kept tightly tucked under him the whole time he stood under the tree I was in. The 4 point rubbed his antlers and licked the branches on a witch hazel for a few minutes before trotting off. Have to get a few errands that I've been putting off run then back to the woods. What a great time of year!

I believe I'll take the dog for some birds tomorrow when it finally hits 20 degrees.I don't want to kill a deer bad enough to sit in a tree in the teens with a swift wind. Not too many years ago,I wouldn't have given it a second thought but I ain't man enough or motivated enough now.

Sounds like the beginin symptoms of "old age" disease Killing deer is just starting to lose it's luster for some reason.I think this winter I may go completely traditional to see if that reignites the spark.

9 bucks today. Three legal ones, two of which I could have shot but elected to pass. Next week, my standards are going to be lowered, lol.

I had a branch about 1/4" throw off my 50 cal roundball from a flintlock one year. I aimed for the lungs and took out the spine. Only 30 yards and I knew I couldn't be off that much, My hunting buddy went back to the hit and found the half-round cutout on the branch. Branch was only 5 or 10 feet in front of the deer. I had to chase that deer down a snowy hill as she had use of her front legs......not back. It was to say.....an interesting kill.

The woods will look the same as they do now. It makes a huge difference come hunting time. I walk all of my stand sites before spring green up every year.

I've had a 3/8 inch dia. limb deflect a 30-06 round, (I posted pictures of it here), and my kid once missed a buck with his bow by hitting a fern. In a practical sense, "any" interference will change the trajectory somewhat. Maybe not enough to matter or to notice but physics come in to play when obstacles are encountered.
