We gave the deer a break this week to get the dog some exercise and she's turning into a first rate bird dog.Saturday I took Jordan and two of his friends out on SGL 44 in Elk county after they were done with their annual youth hunt.Jordan's buddies never hunted birds before so we let them shoot and Jordan backed up their misses towards the end of the day.All totaled,we had 21 birds up and close to 70 shots fired lol.Jordon killed the last two we had up and one of his buddies ground pounded one on the way back to the truck.I wouldn't have let it happen but he shot it before I had a chance to intervene. We went back up Monday because I had no power at my office all day.We hit a remote spot with mostly wheat growing and the birds kept running in front of the dog.We had 11 flushes, mostly out of range before we got two solid points and two dead roosters.A happy dog and a happy kid Attachment Deleted

Planting on doing this tomorrow, have a couple of questions. Can his father also carry a gun and hunt during the youth hunt? Can I also go along and hunt or is it only one adult hunter for one youth hunter? We may go for squirrels tomorrow evening, and I may take the muzzle loader. Can he shoot a doe if properly licensed, which he is, and I just change guns with him while I'm with him?

Tomorrow is the start for rabbit squirrel grouse woodcock so yes an adult can carry a gun. If you are hunting pheasant only the Jr. hunter (12-16 yoa) may shoot at a pheasant. If you are out with a mentored youth (under 12) the youth may only hunt rabbit or squirrel and the adult has to carry the gun. Only one gun with mentored youth.
As far as switching guns to muzzleloader ok so long as the youth has Jr. combo license.

Thanks, he’s a junior with a combo and doe license, so that maybe what we’ll do.
