Ok. Next project for me. We carry water to camp to use for showers, dishes, etc. I have 6 of those blue aquatainers that hold like 7 or 8 gallon a piece. Most weekends I am dumping out a couple of them as we didn't use them all. Got me thinking that I may want to use a couple of 55 gallon drums that I could place under the cabin and then plumb to my rv pump. I would use the aquatainers to fill the drums. Didn't know how long I could keep water in drums like that. We don't drink this water, but just didn't know how long we could keep and what are some ideas to keep it fresh. Could also get one of those white water tanks if they would be better? I would drain this system in the winter and just do what we do now by setting the water next to the rv pump inside and dropping a hose into the bucket. Our water usage in winter is reduced anyway.

I'm guessing you will run the water off the roof into the drums?

I'm guessing you will run the water off the roof into the drums? I may do that. I may also use the water from home. Like I said most of the time we have a surplus of water brought to water used. Plus there are times when I go by myself or with just one of the kids. I think we could keep a couple of drums filled easily throughout the summer. If we are there on a long weekend then we may draw it down some. A long week we would probably use a good bit of it.

There are chlorine pills you could put in the tank, right? Or a bit of bleach?

I have kept water in a five gallon water carrier for several months at camp. If I were you I would not dump it, but would keep the jugs in camp if they are full. Why carry it out fresh every time? Unlike food, water does not spoil. The only time I don't keep it at camp is during the coldest part of winter.

My former brother uses a cistern to catch the rain water off his roof. How it's kept clean, I don't know.
I've seen several customers that gave 55 gallon barrels catching rainwater, and the barrels have overflows, so they keep getting fresh water in
