Well it was a tougher then normal season for us as it was for a lot of people around the state. The first day we seen 2" of snow , blinding snow and high winds (40 mph). But we did hear a lot of gobbling.
The second Saturday was better weather wise but much less gobbling. I called a long beard in off the roost but when he got to around the 50 yd mark was spooked by a bobcat. At 10:30 I get the text... LB DOWN !!! from my brother. His 11 yr old son put one down , His fourth gobbler in four seasons and his third long beard. 19. 2 lbs. 10 1/2" beard and 1 1/4" Spurs. Attachment Deleted

I went back up the following Saturday and just chased gobblers all over the mountains. They would gobble but would not budge in my direction. I figured they were with hens.
I made it back up to hunt the 15th - 18th and didn't hear a gobble till 535 pm of the 16th and at 538 pm I was putting my tag in a nice LB. He was 19.4 lbs, 9.5" beard and 1 1/8" Spurs. The 17th and 18th I pretty much worked birds from day break till 1 pm but just couldn't deal the deal.

I made back North to hunt the 24th, 25th and the 27th. On the 24&25 I worked birds off the roost but couldn't get them to just commit to my set up. On memorial day I change strategy and set up differently and in the direction they favored going. I managed to get in tight on the roost ( 75 yds). He started gobbling at 450 am. And at 540 and almost 80 gobbles later he flew down. When he landed I gave him a good help and he instantly gobbled and I shut up and got ready for the shot. O spotted him at 32 yds and the little 20 sent the 2 3/4" load of TSS #9 to his location and he did his back flop and my season ended at 545 am. He added to my growing list of memorial day weekend birds. He was 18.3 lbs, 11 @/2" beard and 7/8" sours.

It was one of my toughest seasons to date. The GPS average walked was 11. 6 miles each day . My shortest day was 7.8 miles. A lot of hard work but as always well worth it as I can't stop playing this spring time chess match every year. I just love and live for it !
