Im still over 300 miles away, but JJ is a good friend. If he needed a wipe, I would gladly laugh at him scootching in the driveway.......might even take a pic to share with the class.......

I guess nobody went hunting Thought it was going to happen right off the bat. We had a gobbler answer our calls on the roost and he flew down about 150 yards away from us in the field. Should have been able to see the decoys plain as day where he was at. He stood their gobbling and strutting for a few minutes and then he slow strutted off. Heard a few birds throughout the morning, but never got one to work.

We had a youth hunter out at my club on Saturday. I'm guessing he was around 9 or 10. He had a bunch of turkey come in on his decoys and a big coyote came in on the turkey. He hit it square with a 410 and rolled it, but it managed to run off. They couldn't find it. Needless to say the yote blew their hunt.

It never rained. We covered a lot of ground, saw plenty of fresh sign but never heard a gobble. On the way out,we walked right up on two gobblers with a lone hen. They didn't seem to be in any hurry to get out of there but that isn't the way to kill one.

"We covered alot of ground and saw please plenty of sign". Patience my man. If there is "plenty" of sign, bunker down, call a little, and wait. š

We won't shoot them unless they come in gobbling.I was out several mornings before work last week and never heard a gobble. That happens most years but it's a couple weeks early this year. It'll get good again. We would have headed out later in the morning but Jordan had a baseball game.

Took my daughter out. We were surprised by the good weather in northwestern Potter county in the morning. My brother and I went in at 930 pm Friday night in the rain and set up the double bull near a roost site at the bottom of the mountain along a corn field edge where he has been seeing 40 + birds in his field every morning and evening. Day break greeted us with no less then 100 gobbles and fly down cackle that within seconds had birds dropping into our flock of decoys like geese. All the hens landed within range of the 20 ga. But the 11 long beards and 9 jakes landed and stayed out at 50 yards or more all morning till about 10 am. The result was no harvest but a great time and some education about turkey breeding , incubation and flock Dynamics and she also learned about friction calls and the different woods and the effects of the density of it and how it changes the sound of the pot call. All in all a great morning spent in the blind with my daughter. Even though she didn't want to get up at 5 am because " that's crazy early to get up" when she got back the wife asked her how it was... Her reply was it was AWESOME and exciting and I can't wait to go next weekend! That was one of the best things I've heard in a long time. I'm so excited. It's gonna be a very long week !!!

Gotta give ya credit LB. There are many who would have been shooting at 50 yds with their "super" shells.

Gotta give ya credit LB. There are many who would have been shooting at 50 yds with their "super" shells. My brother and I build our own "super" shells in 20 ga with TSS. With those 2 3/4" shells at 50 yards ,#9 shot we are pattering a average of 278 pellets in a 8" circle and it goes through 1/2" cdx plywood. She can hit dimes with her compound at 20 yards all day long but her steadiness and comfortability with a gun isn't that great. The gun and load will do the job at that distance but it takes a seasoned Hunter to pull it off. I have mistakenly shot a bird at 58 steps in a open hay field but I prefer them at 30 every shot. But 50 on purpose doesn't happen for me or her.

Eh,it's no fun killing one the first morning anyway. Lol yeah I don't know how a 12 year old harvesting her first turkey would think of that though Doug. I know for myself it sucks but then again that's why I buy a extra tag !
