Ok. Going to try something a little out of the box. This plot is a little over 2 acres. In 2016 I planted 1/2 in ladino clover and 1/2 was soybean. When the soybeans were done, I frost-seeded ladino into the soybean side in the early spring 2017. Prior to planting this was just a common hayfield and I didn't spray roundup prior to planting and didn't spray anything after planting. There is some clover in it, including some natural red clover, but there is obviously a ton of weeds and many areas with no clover. Anyway for the experiment, I am going to spray this 2 acres with imox herbicide in late May/early June and see if the clover that is there will take it over. Not going to plant or spread any seeds. Edit: The all brown area is what I am doing. The plot in the lower right of the bottom pic is where I plant a fall annual every year. Untitled by cspot12, on Flickr Untitled by cspot12, on Flickr

It won't fill in. There are so many weed seeds in that soil that they will sprout.

On the subject of clover.......
#1--I am having some construction done and I had the contractor take the excess dirt and spread it on a section that is about 20yds x 40yds. So, I have a "blank slate" so to speak for planting. The dirt is a good 4"-5" deep.
I don't see a need to use any weed killer since nothing is there.
So...#2--What type of clover should I consider planting? I know there are different types....but I have no idea of the difference or if it even makes a difference.
Thanks Gents!!

I like Jumbo Ladino and White Dutch, but any Ladino will do

I did some research and the white Ladino seem to be "the choice". I'll pick up some of that. Thanks!!

Dave, a little 10-10-10 wouldn't hurt. And lime is usually required

Well....I should be good on the lime thing. Since this dirt was scrapped from my lawn. I get my lawn fertilized like 4 times a year, grub control and lime.

Clover requires more nutrients than grass. It needs a good bit of potassium.
