I found a lure and bait that work. I think "If it stinks......they will come!"

When I was trapping back n the 50's, Sardines, Tuna Fish, and Canned Smoked Oysters seemd to work with almost any furbearer. Of course, back then all that stuff was cheap.

As a teenager I kept a lot of trout and I used the heads and skins for catching a bunch of my 'coons. Grape jelly works well along fence rows where the big, well furred boars travel in the fall. And best of all, their fur is nice and dry when you catch them there. Most of the mink I've caught have been in blind sets where points force them to walk around something sticking out into shallow water-and by luck in muskrat sets.

After a few years of trapping here in Franklin co. I realized that most of the trappers (including me) were using Stanley Hawbaker's fox lures (he was in Ft. Loudin and not far away). It was great stuff! However, as time went on I began to use lures manufactured other places in the country because I felt it gave me an edge on "educated" fox. Never did figure out if it actually worked! Muab

Denny, I had a pet raccoon for a little while back in my youth... would give him sugar cubes. Of course he'd wash them in his water bowl... Muab

I haven't trapped in years. Gave it up when I got tired of the taste of muskrat.

I plan one putting out a dozen or so traps for 'coon, fox, and coyote. I will probably catch 'coons and 'possums-both are in need of some serious thinning.
I used to catch some muskrats in the creek that runs through our property but their numbers are very low so I'll let them alone, Catching a few mink may help them out. I bought a fisher tag the first year they were offered and have it's skin hanging on the side porch wall. I don't think I want to kill another.
If the winter's on the mild side I'll probably snare a few beavers and try to snare some 'yotes and foxes.
Prices are near rock bottom so there shouldn't be too many guys putting steal in the ground.
