When i was young [ that would be over 50 years ago .] If you bought a new rifle or for that matter a used one,it you could keep the shoots inside of an 8 inch paper plate at 100 yards ,you had a shooter ?
Since i am no Einstein it took me a time to realize that this system is flawed !
I began a quest to improve my marksmanship ? I read a lot about reloading my own shells !
My wife at the time and also my parents said " You aren't bring that stuff into my house and maybe blow us up !" Over the years i had got my loading knowledge and tools plus supplies built up and haven't quit learning yet ?
The first batch of shells i load had me on the edge of my seat when i went to the range. I wasn't sure if i would destroy my gun . I was scared to pull the trigger ! But i held the gun and leaned away from it and fired my first load ! WOW ! I was alive and unharmed ! I did the same thing with 3 more of them ? After them i figured i must have done something right and lost my fear . I then decided to hang on to my gun and shoot for the proverbial 8 inch plate !
HOLY COW ! The shots were in like a 6 inch group !!!!!! I had never shot that well before ? I was hooked !
Over the next few months i had bought different powders and bullets and my groups became smaller and smaller and my head got bigger and bigger !
When it came near deer season i would go to the range with my hunting buddies and we would do the old PA. sight ins with the paper plates .
I would let them get what we or they called zeroed in and then i would get to the sand bags and shoot a 2 inch group. Not just 1 time but 3 or 4 of them .
All i heard from them was "Boy that gun is sure a shooter !" They had no idea i was loading my own shells and they were using factory stuff. I never told told them. How many time i was told "If you ever go to sell that rifle i want it ." The gun was an old 03-A3 Sporterised and had a 4 power Weaver scope on it .
I have been doing the hand loading ever since . My guns have changed and became better quality but i miss my old 03-A3 . I now load for and shoot for 5 in my family and myself. I take them shooting as often as they can go . All of them are excellent shoots.
All i have to say is what a great hobby this is !
