Didn't take long this morning in 2A. Set up on a flat above a known roosting area. When the red birds started their morning signing, two gobblers went off just down the hill from my position. In the murky gray light of dawn, 3 hens fed up to my position and a full fall was bringing up the rear. I held off till he broke strut, and sent an arrow through his wing butts at 18 yards. The flopping began at 6:20. He has sharp, hooked spurs and a 9 1/2 inch beard. Probably a solid three year old. As I was tagging him, another bird was gobbling good down the hill and across a small creek. He was still gobbling as I carried this guy out of the woods. Attachment Deleted

They were talking good in my neck of the woods but I know it was raining up towards Erie and foggy in many areas of the state.

Yay! Good bird, good shot. Do you use one of them "arrow stop" things to keep the arrow from passing thru the bird?
First time I ever saw one, was in raw hunting footage an outfitter screened at our club some years ago. Cam mounted on the bow riser. Called a big gobbler in to maybe ten yards, nailed it. Dang thing flopped around all over the place for maybe a minute, arrow never came out and looked crazy whipping around, as the bird rolled and flopped.
Then it rolled down over a bank and out of sight.

Kinda nice with the late spring to be able to hunt them during this part of their cycle for a change in this corner of the state. Visibility is still good and they are talking real well.

I personally like the green-up. When your not usin a blind, its hard to hide in open woods. The leaves give you some cover when sittin. Just my opinion.

I was told a lot of birds were in the tree at 9 yet. I had to quit early as I had other things to do.

Agree with TK....I like a lil green-up to help in concealment. Imay have to put a blind out this week as i doubt there will be much in Sully.
