I haven't fished opening day of trout season for years.Too crowded. The nice weather today encouraged me to take a ride and look at the local streams.I saw a man and girl fishing in a trout stream.I stopped and told them they better wait for Saturday. They just bought a license and went fishing. No experience.Didn't read the regs. They asked many questions,so I took them to one of my favorite spots to look for trout and we saw a large golden rainbow. They seemed excited about it,so I suggested fishing there Saturday afternoon and showed them several ways to rig for trout. Now I'm excited about opening day again.

On opening day I checked on my new recruits before they left for home. They didn't catch anything and froze in the morning. But they saw some people catch a few including a large Golden Rainbow. They picked up some tips and are still interested. They both said they're going to keep at it.I've been mostly observing in this cold weather and hopping back in the truck to warm up.I did catch a Brown trout on a Panther martin spinner.Come on spring!

I've never tried to fish before but it looks to be very nice, having a great time with friends. I'm going to try it next month. Any advice?

Sunday is free fishing day-ANYONE can fish without a license! Give it a go. If you can have somebody show you the ropes, it an easy thing to do but nobody ever masters it. The more you fish, the better you'll get. The better you get, the more you'll want to fish. Once you learn, teach somebody else.
