Not that I will only consider wood or carbon, but I'm looking to use my trusty Bear #45 recurve....which I've owned for about 45 years.....for target practice. More actually for an exercise ritual. Hey....if you gotta exercise, might as well make it fun!!
Anyway, I was looking at the Lancaster Archery site and cedar arrows are about $3.33 each, and carbon's are a little more pricey. I'm just flinging field tips into a target so I don't need a high end hunting shaft.
Suggestions as to make and how the quality of any given brands are?
Thanks

I would just get some Easton XX75 Gamegetters from Lancaster Archery. Inexpensive and tough. Just like the old bird that will shoot them.

I would use Douglas Fir. Heavy and tough. Carbon is for sissy pants archers!

Remember.....these are target only. Not needed for hunting.

Carbons are junk. They delaminate, fray, are a hazard. If you get one of those frayed fibers under your skin look out.Wood is king like Bushy said but if you don,t go that route take aluminum over the carbon crap.

Dave I'll make ya 1/2 dozen. Just need to know spine. I'm pulling 60lbs at 30" and use a 6o/65 spined arrow. I'm thinking you'll prolly be in the 50/55 range. You can tweak it with different weight points though.

Lemme measure my draw. I think a 30" is right. I'd go do it right now, but it's been a busy day for me and I'm just plain pooped. Lemme know the cost. BTW, I can fletch 'em as I have the jig, fletchings, and glue.

I'll let you know about cost, other than that it's on me.

If you give me a link or post a few pics of how you cut your feathers, I could likely do the same when the original ones begin to wear. Thanks much!!

Ok Bushy.....when I'm at full draw, the distance between the string and the "end of my bow" is 29.5". So.....a 30" (shaft only) should do the trick?

Carbon for recurves, wood for longbows. Well Kodiak, I think Bushy is gonna disagree with you. OTOH....way back in the '70's when I hunted with this recurve bow, I used wood. I only complained when I hunted in the rain....as rain would "curve" at least 2 outta 6. But wood would fly straight and kill as good as anything!!
