I have fished the Port Deposit area for many years. Below link is a snapshot of the regs. I've launched from the Port Deposit Town Ramp(East side river) plus from Susky State Park Lapidum ramp(West). Both boat ramps provide good access to the fishing areas. Best fishing is up & around Spencer & Roberts Islands in the heavy rock structure. Optimum time to striper fish is when Conowingo Hydro Plant is running their turbines(normally starts 10-11am daily). I usually hit the later June season and fish "live lining" of white perch. During earlier Trophy Season MD DNR has float markers outlining the Trophy Season border around the "Twin Rocks" just out from ramp at Susky State Park(Lapidum). Best fishing is in heavy rock structures so suggest having a jet mtr or good rock guard to protect prop plus take extreme care when anchoring as when the turbines open up expect quick rises in water level. Best of luck! MD Striped Bass Regs

so the way I read it is non offset hooks can not be more then 1/2 inch cap with bait boy that's a small hook are non offset hooks illegal. can you use fake eels n the early season and if you are using lures I guess you have to grimp the barbs down. I always just fished for at fish so I guess in the early season you can use anything to fish for catfish

Loggy will check back on post. But I believe this time of year he works for a CPA doing income taxes. He's a busy guy right now.

QH...The 1/2" gap restriction ONLY applies to J-hooks and not non-offset circles. Below are some good non-offset circles. I have used the EC L7228(Black) and Gamakatsu Octopus in sizes 6/0-8/0 with good success. Rubber eels or other lures are ok. Regs are designed to avoid gut hooks. Barbless restriction only applies to trolling.

Your welcome QH. Glad that helped clarify things. I too struggled with the way the hook regulations read. It really could be worded better IMO.

loggy do you no if umbrella rigs are legal or the early striper season when you are trolling Sorry for delay QH....been in VA last 6 days plus workin alot at local CPA firm this tax season. "....a person may not use more than 2 hooks or 2 sets of hooks for each rod or line." This means that an umbrella rig double rigged with two hooked baits is legal, whereas an umbrella rig with all swim baits with hooks is not. Just rig 2 swim baits with hooks and none in teasers. If fishing lower Susky/upper Flats you will most likely be more successful "live lining" white perch based on my experience.

thanks loggy I think I'm going to bet a couple of the umbrella rigs so as long as there are no more then two hooks per set I'm good to go and pinch the barbs close in the early season so much to learn I like to be as legal as I can I grew out of giving my hard earned money away lol

Good to stay legal. I have been checked a few times by marine police in that area.
