When I was growing up in Rostraver township I knew Pat Sedlak. I was about 12 years old and he came and picked me up
and gave me lessons on Fox Trapping. After High School I moved on in life but I always have trapping in my heart and made time every fall to run some kind of line for 2 weeks to month.
I am now 69 years old and wonder what ever happened to him. I am sure he must be deceased. Pat Sedlak wrote t least 6 books on trapping and the one he is most known for is School - Boy Trapper.
I know he was a member of the PTA as because we went to meetings in some hotel either in lower Belle Vernon or perhaps it was in Charleroi,Pa.
Where I am really going with this discussion is Why isn't he in the PTA HOF. Anybody know?

Pat Sedlak was from Belle Vernon and died in the 70s. I believe he was suffering from cancer and it's said that he took his own life instead of waiting for it to kill him. His books are often looked for by collectors. I'm pretty sure I still have one of his here somewhere. There are also guys who collect trapping lures and his are some that they look for.

I believe Sedlak wrote "The School Boy Trapper". Was one of my favorites when I was trapping as a kid. Still have it here somewhere in a box likely.

I am reading Pat Sedlaks book School-boy trapper. I was raised in Rostraver township however Rostraver TWN is just on the out skirts of Belle Vernon and our mailing address was Route 2 Box ?? Belle Vernon Pa. I bring this up because it would be common for me to say I am from Belle Vernon, Pa. So I will add some questions as I go. 1). Have any of you ever been to or purchased anything from Sedlak Trapper Supplies, 211 Main St. Box 133 Belle Vernon, Pa. in 1966 the time of this printing I never knew Sedlak Supplies existed . It doesn't seem like something I would have missed. Has anyone heard of or owned a Victor coil Spring #22 I have owned and still own Victor coils spring 1 1/2 ( round jaw) and Victor coil spring #2 ( square Jaw ) but never heard or seen a Victor coil spring #22. I was wondering what differences there were between the two. I am also looking to find any other books that Pat may have put out.

I have never heard of a #22 victor. There a lot of trap collectors, so you may be able to learn something on one of their sites.

Interesting. I've lived a stones throw from Belle Vernon my entire life, and never heard of Pat Sedlak. That said, I never trapped wither, so reckon I never spent time in trapping circles to hear talk of him ? There are still Sedlak's that are in that area, Monessen and such. A google search will give you a bit of info on him. Following, is an interesting thread from a trapper message board. trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4878738/1

What I heard was he stole some money from the Pen Trappers Asso. when he was treasure. I didn't know him real well but he advertised a new book he was putting out which I ordered and paid for which I never got because he died. When asked where it was I got the answer that it was the printers fault. Seemed like a nice man but I think he built up bills when he was sick and needed the money.
