Kate has been practicing with her camera and tolerating my criticism for a couple of years. Finally she sent me on a project and had the camera and opportunities to herself and she came through with flying colors. Most of these are, with a couple exceptions, pictures from today. We had a bonus crop of juniper berries and possum haw, (deciduous holly), which most birds in the region seem to love. We, (Kate), always decorate for winter using natural displays of green and red, plus you might see a Christmas light hidden among the branches. Cedar waxwing: Male bluebird: Dark-eyed junco: An unusual "orange variant house finch." We also had two of these in summer: Blue bird with a juniper berry: Cedar waxwing with a possum haw berry: Cedar waxwing with a juniper berry:

Great photos! You should post more like these.
My wife got me a fancy camera for Christmas, any hints for making it easy to post pics from a laptop to a website? When I take them with my other camera, it always says the files are too big to attach.

Beautiful!!
What you call possum haw I know as Winterberry Holly, very common in wet soils here...never heard the name possum haw. Those pics are fantastic!! We have winter berry holly also but possum haw is a bigger plant and often described as the "deciduous holy." Although both are really deciduous. Here's a quick reference: Q. What exactly is a possumhaw (Ilex decidua)? A. It’s one of two native, deciduous hollies widely available for planting in home gardens. The other is winterberry (I. verticillata). Q: How can you tell the difference between possumhaw and winterberry? A: Silvery bark and leaves with rounded tips say possumhaw. Dark brown-to-black bark and leaves with pointed tips say winterberry. Also, possumhaw grows twice as big—up to 25 feet tall and 15 feet wide.
