My beans are really taking it on the chin. Usually this plot had lots of green this time of year. Not this year. Here is how they look inside the exclusion cage.

These were planted the first weekend in June. Should be over a foot tall by now.
We picked blackberries today. Should have been a bumper crop. The berries are sitting there waiting for rain.

Yes. They look awful. It is a shame when mother nature doesn't cooperate. All of the work goes right down the drain. Are you going to see some brassicas in there?

The beans are there. I'm going to wait to see what August brings. Why seed brassica into a drought?
If beans fail, I will seed rye and oats into the plot come September. I have nothing to lose giving them a chance at this point.
I must say, I do like the way the plot cleaned up from the Round Up spraying over the 4th. A great way to get a plot ready for clover.
I could also seed some clover into that rye and oats as well.

I went and bought a brassica mix this morning, took it to the lease and spread the seed on two areas I had sprayed the 4th weekend. It was drizzling as I was seeding. These are two plots I have neglected and want to just get them cleaned up. There was no tillage whatsoever. Hoping to show Long beard it can be done.

A steady rain with occasional down pours over here for the past few hours. Radar looks like it should last the rest of the day. Hopefully we get the same thing tomorrow.

We got a good bit of rain this morning. Was hoping to maybe hit my fall plot with the disc, but that will have to wait a couple of days.

Well, the stream volume of Pine Creek TRIPLED since yesterday. It's now a raging torrent. LOL Looking at it now, it's at least moving. Yesterday it was more like a pond. The beans, I'm sure, have grown a foot overnight, and my brassicas are probably 3 inches tall since seeding them yesterday.

YEP it was a frog strangler yesterday. Clubhouse got flooded, access road washed out, and one of my corn fields was flattened! Trees down everywhere this morning. Should be dry by Tuesday. Will resume farming after work this week.

Well, I really think my beans will be toast. Ground is drying out fast. May need to consider oats and rye come Labor Day. I talked to my brother last evening and he said the ground was very damp in the Genesee / Shinglehouse area. He said a couple good rains monday and Tuesday and heavy dews the past 3 morning and it looks great dor planting. He said the roads never dried from sunday Pm till noon tuesday. He tried getting his wife's car up to our lease with the seed and 300 lbs of fertilizer in the back seat and had trouple getting up the tractor lane cause it was so muddy Monday evening. Must be a lot different down towards Rt 6... And it always is. Esp with snow!
