Does anyone else besides me look in the mirror and say who the heck is that? I once thought I saw Dennyf in my mirror.....I quit drinking that very same day. See......that may be cause to double down and drink much, much more.

Car child safety seat inspections. A good example of how stupid our citizenry has become. People stand in line to have their child safety seat inspected and receive tips on how to use it.
Is it just me?

Gosh, I remember back when there were more than a few Auto Parts, and Hardware Stores around here, that also had a token aisle or two of fishing gear, and even hunting gear. In the spring, they would have the bins in the aisles heaped full of the rubber hip waders for like $9.99. Didn't really matter if they dry-rotted after a couple years. From what I'm seeing, $40/$50 is the starting mark now for the crappy rubber waders, and they seem to start with size 9 and go up.

If the PGC gets the licence increase that was printed in the Erie paper today this state will easily loose 30% of our hunters, a New York non residence licence will be cheaper, I hope that they are asking for a lot in hopes of getting a little.God pity a man with a family. Fishing licence are going up, boat licences went up, trailer plates went up, this recreating aint so cheap as it used to be, but it won't be as crowded either.

Hmmmmm.......Ghee Jim, I never looked at it that way. Looks like it may be headed back to the day's where only the wealthy were able to hunt. OTOH, I can still afford to buy the license. Oh...wait....that would mean I would be considered part of the "elite". I better start considering putting my Iron City in the 'fridge.

Must be really outrageous if it would be cheaper to get a non resident in NY rather than a resident in PA!!! For me to hunt turkey in NY I think it is $120.....Man that would be crazy if they want to charge that much for a PA resident....!!!

New York reduced their NR to $100:00 ,for buck, bear and a turkey tag. I guess the website hasn't been updated. www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6094.htmlResident ---------- non Resident $22 (ages 16-69) $100 (ages 16+)
An annual hunting license (above) must be purchased before purchasing the following privileges/stamps. Turkey Permit $10 (ages 12+) $20 (ages 12+) What price was the Erie paper quoting for a PA license?

Search "license increase" on the Erie times news web page.

They want the "large bite" increase all at once, and it's gonna be painful as they lose many many many of the "fringe" folks. Especially the fringey's that are non-residents. I'm not saying that they should not have had an increase in 17 years, but the "let's make up for 17 years lost time all at once" approach is gonna bite them..... HARD. I thought the scaled approach that was proposed at one time, that involved smaller incremental increases over 5 years, was a better choice. That seems to have gone away though.

For a hunter who buys archery, muzzy, doe, and furtakers, it's quite a jump in price. I think I'll go back to shooting a doe with the bow as I did before buying the ML and only getting a furtaker after I retire, or if beavers get out of hand at our place.

I can easily see them loosing 30% of their licence sales, small game is non existent around here, we have ducks, geese, deer and turkeys, and this increase doesn't include a duck stamp, and if they throw in a pheasant stamp, 30 % might be under estimating the cuts. The deer program soured a lot of people, xbows the same, this will be the straw that breaks it for many of our hunters.

How would you like to be a hunting family, with four or more licenses to buy?

Unless I make my the two of my sons who are in college buy their own, I will be paying for 5 general HLs, 4 archery, 5 doe, 1 or two muzzy, at least one furtakers(maybe 4). Or, my wife may change her mind and decide to not buy her first license in 20 years(she has been looking forward into getting back into it since our oldest was born) The 2 sons who will be in college may give hunting up while in school.-Both of them would gladly buy an archery only tag if there was one, but buying the general without having time to hunt may be not be the wisest thing to do with the money.
It sounds a bit like jumping minimum wage from $7.25 up to 15 all at once. Sticker shock even for families who make hunting a big part of their lives. How many casual hunting families will drop out with the jump?

How would you like to be a hunting family, with four or more licenses to buy? Your position is very, very rich coming from one who posted,
"Once again, it's a life style, buying land is not limited to any man, you want it you save and you buy it, then you work the rest of your days paying for it, don't be shy, jump into the fire. Spare me the wife, kids and car payments, put your big girl pants on and live the dream."
Just sayin'! lol

I buy my cars with cash. I own over 100 of my own acres-still 20months to go 'til it's all paid for. Still saving for the boys college and my retirement. I still don't like the kind of jump the prices taken. How will the folks who are barely scraping by now going to do it if there are more than one or two to buy?
I'll pay what it costs. Those who don't view hunting as a part of their family's lifestyle likely will not. Retaining hunters is at least as important as recruiting news ones.
