How far south in west PA does one have to go before they become ramps? Everyone I know around here calls them leeks, though I do think "ramps" would be a good way to differentiate them from the cultivated leeks in grocery stores.
Instead of giving west pa to WV, maybe everything east of Harrisburg to New Jersey?

Well, to that, WV recently received my $70 for a non-res feesh license. I'm still contemplating whether I'll kick what amounts to half of that for a PA res license. So ya, perhaps SW PA should just get it over with and secede. I won't complain ? confused-smiley-013

My guess, once you start getting to within a couple stone throws from the Mason-Dixon, the nomenclature is solid on the "Ramp" side. A quick googley-moogley will show you that West Virginian's may not even know what a wild "leek" is.

Gonna be checking my favorite patch this weekend down in Greene County if everything goes as planned. I suspect they will be ready for some digging!!

I would certainly think you can pick this weekend. They won't be large/full, but certainly beg enough for cooking the way you wish.

Dutch, when I lived up that way, the Permastone near Galton had leek pizza when it was digging season. Is the place even still open? The owner(was it Vern?)was pretty interesting for a guy in his early twenties to talk to. I liked running rabbits with my beagle in those days and he loved talking about his old dog Shorty.

Permastone is open. Never been in it. According to the Facebook page, people rave about the food.

I stopped in the place for the first time after it had been rebuilt after a fire to take a look at some of the wide white pine boards that the owner had cut and used for paneling.

Wanted to pitch a few casts into the wild, wonderful Yough tomorrow, but seein's how the water is non-compliant, I think I'll go out and take a few Wild "Leeks" instead.

Why do you feel it is necessary to announce when you intend to take a leek??

Small Talk (maybe that's the wrong term to use where referencing leaks/leeks) on an otherwise currently dull board, thimbledoinker.
