This is an internet buddy of mine named Larry. He lives in Alaska and he is absolutely the most knowledgeable guy about rifles and optics I know of anywhere. He is an absolute clown though. Hence the video.

Knowledgeable? that's debatable. What's for sure is that his "broke-in" rifle is worth about 1/2 the value it was before the break-in process.

He don't care. He spray painted the whole thing gold right after that. Calls it "Goldfinger". He has a different spray painted Kimber Montana for every day of the week.

Now I might mention I was forced to go Nosler. I was a huge Speer guy. I had my basement littered with empty yellow Speer boxes. Accuracy was second to none. Then every local shop quit carrying Speer. Broke my heart. I tried Hornady Interlocks and I wasn't happy with the accuracy. Then I tried Sierra bullets and wasn't impressed by them. I had to go to NBT's to get the accuracy level I came to expect from Speer. For a lot more money to boot. Mike, I too love Speer bullets and I use them for practice not wasting Partitions. Here's a link to a good site for Speer bullets. www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/Dept/Reloading/Jacketed_Rifle

140 Game Kings are "backorderable" it says. I'll go with what I have, hope the 140 Game Kings come, and if not, use the BT's.

140gr BTips shot very well in a bud's M7 Rem in 7mm-08 some years back. It was the SS/synthetic stock 20" bbl version, not the shorter bbl one. Think they all come with a 20" bbl now?
Carried that rifle many times, never did get a shot at a deer with it.

That's what I have Denny, except it's in 260.

Knew dat, is why I 'frowed it in there.
When they came out with the 260, one of our guys was yappin' about wanting one at a block shoot one night. The guy he was talking to had no idea WTH he was talking about as I walked past. Told the confused feller that it was a 6.5mm-08 and the 260 fan got upset, asked me who invited me in the conversation.
Told him at least the other feller now has some clue about it. stirthepot

Maybe now is a good time to ask this question: Which is better, 30-06 or the 270? Some good stuff from all three of you, but Denny, don't take that to mean I like ya or anything. LOL I'm going to take a stab at this. The .270 is better for the deer hunter. The .30-06 is superior for the fellow who hunts deer and Bear. The .30-06 is one of the best for the national/international hunter. If you need more than a .30-06, you need a .375 H&H.

Ewww! That ought six has been around for over a hunnert years and is obsolete now. Plus dang near everyone has one, so that makes it too plain vanilla for the true gun nut that dotes on something newer and unique. Seen such sentiments on dozens of shooting/hunting boards over the years. banghead Plain truth is that the 30-06 is just about the perfect cartridge for all but the largest and most dangerous big game in North America. Some cartridges are faster'n flatter, but few offer the versitility of the ought six. And that fact taken into consideration, there isn't a big game species in North America that hasn't been cleanly taken with a 30-06. I currently have three of 'em in the pile and once had others. Haven't hunted with any lately, but all but one have killed deer in the past and still can. They're like the 1911 pistol: Everyone should oughta have at least one.

As we all know if your old like me the legendary Jack O'Conner used the 270 until he passed away. He used other calibers but the 270 was his bread and butter. The 06 and the 270 have been debated as far back as I can remember and that's been a few. My dad and I used the 270 for many years, when he passed I had 2 Win. 270's. I purchased the 300 win mag in 2000 to go on an Elk hunt in Colorado. This caliber can be hand loaded for anything a person wishes to hunt. I find it the ultimate caliber if a person only had one rifle, MHO. Just my 2 cents. TN45

I have a .300, the .30-06 is just as good out to 350 yards or so. Past that I like the magnum. But the .30-06 is plenty of gun for all North American game.

My brother killed a bear with a 22 mag many years ago. Great bullet placement, of course.

Tell your brother to file the front sight off if plans on doing that a second time.

I used to do most of my hunting with 30-30's and .32 Specials and the ilk. It was what I was into at the time. It also worked well for my Lebanon county farms I hunted. I still liked the .30-06 for Sullivan county. Now anymore I'm into performance. I either currently have, or recently have had, the .257 Weatherby mag, 7mm Remington mag, .308 Norma mag, .300 Winchester mag, .338 Winchester mag, and .350 Remington mag. And I'm starting to look at the .300 WSM but a mint 1967 700 BDL in .30-06 just set me back financially for awhile. I've come a long way from the 20 gauge smoothbore I started deer hunting with.
