Ordered some 6.5 mm Sierra bullets last November from Midway. Got an email the other day, said they'll be here sometime in August.
I'll believe it when I see it, but fingers crossed.

Word on the street is that the bullet makers suspended sales of 6.5 bullets for awhile. Hornady admitted to this but the rest seem to be doing it too. Seems 6.5 bullets are viewed as 'non-essential' and the companies are going full tilt on making the essentials like .224, .243, .277, .284, and .308. All this has my latest "dream" rifle in jeopardy. I've all the sudden found myself fascinated with the idea of getting a brand new model 70 Winchester Featherweight in .264 Win mag. I can't get it out of my head. But this dearth of 6.5 bullets have me trying to talk myself out of it.

I'm getting there Dutch. There is a method to my madness. I've been thinking a lot about this lately. Do you realize you can hunt all the same animals with the .264 WM that you can with the .30-06? With greater range and less recoil to boot! There is something to be said for a fast 6.5

I'm just now working up a new load for my 6.5 Swede (modern action Savage) using IMR-4350 and Nosler 123 Custom Comp's. I bought 1,000 of these when someone had 'em on sale. Thus far I have 'em grouping at 1.25" with a 5 shot group at 200 yards.....but I know I can do better. I'll keep you posted.

I think if you really want to Elk hunt...you gotta go west. My desire for doing an elk hunt is limited chances afforded via the PA Elk draw. Putting $$ up to go out West really doesn't interest me as i have too many other priorities ahead of doing that!

According to Midway, I no longer have a backorder on these bullets.
Guess I won't be getting them. Says "not back orderable".

Nope, I'll just kill my deer in bow season. To heck with this ammo shortage. LOL
I'll use the Ballistic Tips that I got.

I have this...well...hobby of picking up Savage actions and then headspacing on a new Shilen barrel in whatever caliber I like. Well, I'm still unsure of this....but I'm thinking of it. No real need of this for deer. Would be good for shooting groundhogs at 400 to 800 yards when I find those "special places". It's the new 26 Nosler This pushes a 140gr. bullet to 3300fps and a 129gr bullet to over 3400fps. Neat to shoot I think.....but then.....

Used to use 120 gr bullets in the 7 mag for longer distance hogs. Then switched to 162 Hornady's, as we shot them at 1000 yd competitions and also long range deer.
Not sure there is anything better than long range hog hunting, back when we had hogs in the 70's.
That 26 Nosler would fill the bill, very nicely.
