Thanks Bushy! Not real sure about the "skills" part!! I'm glad Acorn gave the suggestion of doing the sawdust cleanup before going at the stock with hammer and chisel. I was being very careful around the nose.....when.......Grrrrrr. Fortunately i found the chip in short order. If I had not swept up the 1.5" of sawdust and chips, it would never have been found!! You can see I've started shaping the comb up at the nose. That section of the comb will have a rounded\blended going back maybe 1-3/4". The remaining top of the comb will just have a small radius. I wanted room at the nose so a shooter could stick his "nose" in there with ease.

Hey Rusty, you suggested what I was thinking. Lol
Dave,
I put a slight bend in my keys so that they are snug when installed. I always knock them out to remove the barrel on that rifle when I clean it. Haven't lost a key yet!

A mind is a terrible thing......... Gave credit to the wrong person. Retraction made.....Rusty was the guy who made the suggestion. A check for damages is in the mail.

Slow day today, but got a few things done. Got tired quick so I didn't "finish\finish". I want to work on the stock forend before I shape the lock plates. I still need to drill the tang bolt. I'm undecided on weather to drill for lock bolt #2 or not. The second hole is the easy one so no concerns of messing that up. But it's a small lock and I have it inletted well. No real need for a second lock bolt. I don't have the comb nose completely shaped the way I want it. But when I shoulder the stock it's comfortable and easy to look down the barrel. I still have a few scrapes that will need fixed, plus if you look at the left side of the stock....1st pic....at the buttplate, about 2/3 down you will see a dark spot. When I initially cut the stock out on a bandsaw, I went a tad too deep....but kept thinking no big deal....that will get rasp right out. Well...not so much. But an easy fix!! Anyway....looking more like a gun stock every day!! And to think it started out as this:

In studying the wrist and its "extension" into the stock, I've got to make the extension (and the wrist itself) appear to be more round than it currently is. Should look more like this original. I think I can accomplish that via "rounding" the bottom more, and then making the comb a bit skinnier and rounding the top as well.

Started working on the forend today. Once I have that pretty much shaped in, I can finish the lock panels. I have to see how things "flow" before doing the final lock panel work. I ran into a "snag" that I caused myself. I should have stopped when I got really fatigued.....but I didn't. Short version is I ran a #6-32 bolt into a hole that was for the bridal. And that hole is a #6-40. Well, I screwed up (literally and figuratively) the threads for the top of the bridal which cascades into the tumbler which then goes crooked, and on and on. I called the lock maker. He can fix it so it's going back.

I have the dimensions right....next is to rasp\file\sand in the "round" of the forend.

Great L&R Lock Company is working with you. Are they replacing the 6-32 bolt with a 6-40?

Great L&R Lock Company is working with you. Are they replacing the 6-32 bolt with a 6-40? Well, I’m not sure what they are going to do. The fellow told me they would look at it and if it could be fixed, they will. If not, I’ll have to get another lock plate from them. But since it’s a new lock the price will be less than what I would pay at retail. Hey….my fault. I’m glad they are working with me!!

I know I got into some DIY plumbing projects that after finally done thought I almost need the first one as a trial one and the next one as the one I know what I’m actually doing.😀

Took a break from woodworking to start a side plate. I'm not sure how it's ultimately going to look, but I can't buy the "normal" one as they are 6.5" long and I need only 4.5" long. This is what I've got so far: I'll try to get it close to looking something like this: www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/866/1/sp-nw-2-b

You are quite the craftsman. Enjoy seeing your build pics. Presently my favorite topic on this site.

I kept working on the side plate. (At least I'm not rasping\sanding wood today!!) I got it where it's pretty much going to be. I know it's not a "store bought" nor one done by an experienced engraver.....but it's mine and I like it!! It's a serpent. The face\arrow tongue didn't come out the best, but after some shooting, banging around etc....nobody will notice it that much anyway.

BTW, my wife graduated from Seton Hill with a degree in art & teaching. Sh taught art for her career. She said I did a good job…with the exception of the face/tongue. I may clean that up….or maybe not.

I did a little more work on the side plate serpent face. The pic doesn't show it as well (WHAT??) as "in person"....but I like it more. Edit: Took another pic with the side plate on the rife. Still looks better in person. On another note, I received a call today from L&R. They have my lock fixed already!! (I just sent it up this past Monday). They fixed the screw threads and also provided me with a new frizzen (the original was not properly centered). I'll have to file\polish the new frizzen but that beats having to deal with a different lock plate!!

Still wasn't happy with the serpent. Did a few changes and I'm liking it more....not great....but more. Also soldered the RR pipes to the underlug.

I made (well...it's not completely done...front needs soldered on) the nose cap and the RR entry pipe. Today I'll start (and if I'm lucky finish) the inletting of both.
