I always carry my S&W 7 shot AirLite revolver on me when bow hunting. The first round is snake shot as I'm in the mountains where "mean bad snakes" have been located. And the remaining 6 are deep penetrating lead.
A few years back when bow hunting I was approached by someone's Pit bull dog. Now, I hunt in a fairly remote area, but there are enough houses in the area where a dog would get loose. I know it was someone's pet as it had a collar on.
As it turned out, a few "whacks on the ground" with my cane made the dog cower and then he went on his way. But this was the first time I actually took the revolver out of my holster.
Nobody was happier than me that the dog went on his way.

Glad it wasn't worse. Seems many of these attacks involves cubs being with mother. I know somtimes dogs with pups are to more likely to lash out at anything that gets near. Must be that protective motherly instinct.

The uber-intelligent warden, stated on Channel 4, that he is leaning towards euthanizing the 3 Cubs, in order to test for Rabies. DUMB AZZ !
Hey PGC. Take some of the gas royalty money, and enroll your wardens in a Public Relations course.
Who the $%^& kills a Cub, just to check for rabies, after exhibiting no rabid behavior ? I guess they no longer try to acclimate orphaned Cubs in dens of existing sows ?

I would expect that they will put the cubs down too. They said the baers had been seen many times and had been into the birdfeeders in the neighborhood.

Gee, uncanny behavior for a sow and cubs. Kill 'em all ! Trap/transfer ? I mean, especially the cubs, with surrogate sows ?

How old are these cubs? I would expect at least a year? I don't like the idea, but they are not an endangered specie and I would not expect another sow would except them. I'll trust them to make the call. Testing for rabies seems unnecessary and they shouldn't have to be killed to check for it anyway.

If they're year old cubs, she's most likely taught them that humans are a source of food.

Johnny is 8 months and 1 day 2 hrs. Jerry is 8 months, 1 day, and 1 hr. The baby, Jenny, is 8 months, 1 day even. Actually, I dunno the answer.

Speaking of bears, last fall I got these on my trail cam......Notice the larger (I'm thinking Mama) bear in the front seems to have more than 4 legs. (Another Dave pic magic?......I don't tell my secret's!!) Notice the dates of the pics too. And yes....I was there on first day of bear rifle.

No other way That said, that woman is now getting rabies shots anyway

This morning a pitt news report said the cubs will be relocated after being held to check for rabies. I would guess the cubs are over a year old then.

I thought dogs that bit people were often held for a few days as a check for rabies. Don't know where bears fall.
Google=A healthy domestic dog, cat, or ferret that bites a person should be confined and observed for 10 days. Any illness in the animal during the confinement period or before release should be evaluated by a veterinarian and reported immediately to the local public health department.
If signs suggestive of rabies develop, postexposure prophylaxis should be initiated. The animal should be euthanized and its head removed and shipped, under refrigeration, for examination by a qualified laboratory.
If the biting animal is stray or unwanted, it should either be confined and observed for 10 days or be euthanized immediately and submitted for rabies examination.
Skunks, raccoons, foxes and bats that bite humans should be euthanized and tested as soon as possible. The length of time between rabies virus appearing in the saliva and onset of symptoms is unknown for these animals and holding them for observation is not acceptable.

Well, that will make this next process very interesting. Ok, you can do it that way, to wait for symptoms, or kill them and check the brain. Either way, that woman got rabies shots at the hospital
