I get all my critter food from Rodgers Feed Mill in Rodgers OH. Shelled Corn $9 for 50#, Duck Pellets $16 for 50#, and Bird Seed $12 for 50#. Normally haul around 800# out of there when I go.

If I don't keep my corn and birdfeed in metal trash cans mice chew into the bags in no time, and we have a bunch of stray cats living under an old barn bridge behind my garage--bunch of free loaders.

Question for you pro birders. It seems that when I contain the feed in a tight area, say 3 ft area or so per feeding, they hit it pretty good. Now when I actually toss it around in a larger area, they have a harder time finding it and feeding ? Should I keep it to a few small piles instead of slinging it ? I thought slinging it, would allow the more meek birds to get away from the bully Blue Jays. And no, I don't have a hanging feeder.... yet.

I use two hanging feeders, and spread a few piles on the ground under some big Norway spruce trees. I put suet in a wire feeder, but the birds are pretty much leaving those alone this winter.

Is it better for you to have dinner on a plate or tossed around the room?

I'll take that as a "pile" vote.
