Looking to buy an air gun for taking care of ground hogs etc around my house plus some fun plinking. Area getting too built-up around my place for using my 22 Long Rifle. Looking for one that's quiet plus shoots .22 cal pellets vs .177. Appreciate hearing about any of your experiences/suggestions? Currently considering this one: Whisper Fusion Mach 1 .22 caliber

I did have a FX Verminator Xtreme in 22 caliber PCP until I sold it. It is a high end air rifle that could shoot dime groups at 50 yards. Other than the old pump air rifles of my youth, I have no experience with the break barrels that are common today.

What kind of muzzle velocity did it have plus any killing experience with it?? It had a high and low setting. A bit over 900fps on high with the .22 caliber. Only shot paper with the thing. I had good intentions to take it squirrel hunting but never did.

Per my research so far on the Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach 1 .22 thinkin it will do all I need it to do. Seems most recommend the .22 cal vs the .177 if being used for "fur vs feathers",,,,,thought that was funny!

I bought gun direct from Gamo. I was surprised when Gamo sent my confirmation receipt that it came from Daisy Mfg Company. I cked & found that Gamo bought out Daisy a number of years ago. My very first "gun" was a Daisy lever BB Gun over 60 years ago!!

Many years ago an acquaintance of mine wanted to buy a 22 cal air rifle. I don't recall the brand, but it was one that came with a pump. You pumped up the air chamber with like a gazillion pumps (talk about a workout!!). Where he lived a rifle, even a suppressed one would be trouble.
He had a groundhog living under his shed.....a big fellow. At about 25 yards he one-shot it and it never moved after that.
I opted for buying a 22 Supressor. After 6 months of waiting I finally got it. The suppressed 22 ammo has more energy than his 22 air rifle....but dead is dead.
OTOH, I've whacked 'hogs using suppressed ammo at 40 yards.
It all depends upon the situation.
I know in Florida 22 air rifles are constantly used to exterminate those lizards.

Yeah....did a lot of reading on the .177 VS .22 and overall, the .22 was most recommended for groundhog and small game. I'm starting out with the JSB Diablo Jumbo Heavy 22 Cal 18.13 grain pellet but also got a tin of the Crossman 22 Cal Premier 14.3 grain which also were suggested. Looking forward to playing with my new toy!! Thinking I may have the Grandson join in on the fun as he just turned 8 and is starting to show a tad of maturity/common sense! I was around 10 when Dad got me my first Daisy BB gun. Kids today mature far, far faster than they did back when I was growing up!!

I know a guy that has a Gamo, uses it for urban feral feline control. Well, he did, the problem is now resolved. π

Got a Do All Bullet Box(Trap) made by Highwild that can be used for inside or out. Rated for 22 LR but likely just use for air gun as the Mrs wouldn't like the noise in the rec room!! lol It's built like a tank.

Interested to see how you like it. I have thought about getting one for squirrel hunting. That is the type that you just cock? No refillable gas required?

Ridge...forgot to ask what .22 cal pellets did you test? Just saw this question when you updated the thread. The only .22 pellets I shot were the FX brand. Good luck with your new air rifle.

Wow....that thing is quiet! I expected it to be very loud....but they did a great job of suppression!!! Yeah...amazed me too!! Be perfect for my backyard. I never bought pellets before and they're really inexpensive....$10 for 500 pellets(2 Cents per pellet). Now they just need to develop a 6.5CM in one of these!!

Gun arrived today! Was very securely packaged from factory and upon opening fully met my expectations without ever viewing one before!! Did a quick one shot operational check in basement at 15 yards w/factory open sights. Trigger pull was very crisp & light. As good as any of my centerfire rifles. Cocking was smooth & required little effort. Was amazed at the impact force on a beer can!!! The Mrs yelled down basement steps & asked what was going on!! lol Scope seemed solidly made & optics were clear upon initial viewing. Base already mounted on rifle was solid with mount screws rock solid tight per ck with supplied Allen wrench. Overall first impression very good. Will mount scope & further range test at 25 & 40 yds after returning next week from opening-up my VA place. Those Bud Light Cans just can't handle a puny 22 hp punch!!lol

I forgot to mention that the factory open sights were the best I've ever seen. You can draw an unbelievably fine bead. Wish my 54 cal PA Mountain Rifle had them!! Still gonna give the scope a run then decide which way to go.
