One thing I've noticed, when an AR is used in a mass event, it was usually bought a week before, legally.
If ARs weren't available for purchase, wouldn't that stop many of these spur of the moment events?
Honestly, you tape two 30 round mags together, and you have quite a bit of nearly uninterrupted firing.
Get a handgun, and you have 10-13 rounds, and we all know how inaccurate handguns are.
If I want accurate and uninterrupted fire, hands down, I'm taking an AR. It's that simple.
I said to someone yesterday, I'm almost on the verge of carrying my AR in the trunk of my car, not to kill people, but to protect people from a killer, if it ever comes my way

The thing about pistols, especially Glock style, is you're not going to buy one for the first time and go out and kill numerous people a few days later. They're simple to operate but there is a real learning curve there as far as accuracy

My grandfather, back in the 70s, shot at a kid on a motorcycle crossing his driveway. The police called my aunt, and my aunt and brother, took his guns. That was after the fact. My grandfather had a mean streak in him, so, maybe that's mental? That kid is now the head of the worlds largest live events sound operation, located here in town. I'd support Red Flag. Better to take them, then sort it out. I know Mike also has a story to tell, and I know where he's coming from. I almost watched my wife's uncle get shot by 3 cops he had a knife in his hand and was going over to the neighbor because the neighbor was talking about him the voices in his head told him that. Guess what 2 months later and he was back out so he could fly off his rocker again. Red flag laws would be good until your neighbor down the street hears you cuss and then considers you unstable. Then they come to your door and take your rifles. It's a slippery slope to start. Id start with stopping putting these nut jobs in the public eye becuase that is what most are after. If a good guy with a gun does something they hide it til no end.

They're simple to operate but there is a real learning curve there as far as accuracy That's what I mean, a handgun is very inaccurate, if you haven't trained on them. Anyone can pick up an AR, with a scope, and kill people at 100 yds. That doesn't happen with a Glock

You don't need to be accurate at close range,in a crowd of people.AR's account for a couple hundred murders.Handguns contribute to thousands.

60 rounds vs 10-12, then drop a mag. Hmmmmmmm
Or from a hotel window 30 stories up?
America doesn't care that handguns are used by black and brown drug dealers against their own, they care about ARs used against white, black and brown kids in schools

You could slap a 30 round clip full of slugs into your Mossberg auto loader 12 guage and walk through a crowd. Would be just as devastating as an AR. Rifles don't shoot themselves, it's a people problem.

People tend to get out of shotgun and pistol range pretty quick unless trapped in a classroom

This did happen 100 years ago and the guy used explosives. The myth that this didn't happen years ago is just that. Innocents have been dying for 2000 years always have always will. I didn't make the rules up and I sure don't know what the fix is. Maybe getting acid thrown on you is the better option like in the UK.

Honestly, when I was growing up, you rarely heard of this. The generation before you knew how to hide a situation like that they didn't air out their dirty laundry like they do today. Everyone rushes to be first to get the news out today. I've been saying for years now social media is dirtier then money.

No, massacres were never hidden. They've always made the news.

Yeah, they hid the tower shooter in Austin back in the 60s.
I think the first major one I can remember was the Lubys Cafeteria shooting in the early 90s.
I'd be for a waiting period for semi sales. 30 to 60 days?

The point being they didn't talk about stuff. If you look there has been school shooting incidents going back all the way to the 1800s. This did happen years ago like I said. 200 years and we still haven't found a solution for killing other people. No feel good nonsense is going to do it.

The US isn't even in the the top 30 countries of gun related deaths. Seems to me are narrative gets pushed and people eat it up. If you are compassionate about it and feel the need to "do something" find your nearest gun buy back. They are all evil semi's, pumps, etc.

The US isn't even in the the top 30 countries of gun related deaths. No idea where the US stacks up nor do I care. Nor do I care what narrative is being pushed by the left or the right. What I do actually care about it is innocents dying. Many seem to lament the fact that there is no respect for life left in this country yet then the same people then brush aside innocents dying by gun violence as a "narrative" and hype.........

Well I think if there was a cure for killing it would have been done 100 years ago. Bundy Strangled, Dahmer used drills, and acid, the bloke in Nice, Frantz drove a box truck through the crowd. I won't even get started on Mcveigh. The narrative is being pushed that legal gun owners don't care about kids getting killed. Thats 100% wrong. They put secret service with 95 year old Carter. Do the same for the kids.
