I got the trigger plate in....plus I drilled and tapped it to connect the trigger guard. Lot's of measuring, and re-measuring as you only get one shot! Gun looks great, but those shoes? Really? Almost as bad as Buzz and his socks and sandals! 😂 At least his legs were covered up.... 😁

Looks pretty good from here, Dave? I've finished/refinished quite a few stocks over the years, most with pure tung oil.
Some years back, picked up a new repro walnut target stock for a single shot Savage bolt rifle that a buddy rebarreled for me. Decided to use something different to finish it this time. Used ZAR poly fortified tung oil.
Much more moisture resistant than pure tung oil. Applies the same way, think I wound up with four or five coats on that stock? Looks just like a tung oil finish, but it holds up better to sweaty palms.
One of my 40 year old 22-250 varmint rifles had a factory varnish finished stock. After 25+ years of shooting woodchucks in the heat of summer, the varnish got pretty icky from palm sweat. That one I stripped and redid with polyurethane thinned with gasoline, has held up well since.
First set of stocks I ever redid, were on my old M94. Did that back in the 1960s and used boiled linseed oil on the walnut fore end and butt stock. Looked good, until ya carried it in the rain. Then it tended to turn almost white. Once it dried out again, looked ok. Haven't used linseed oil since, just tung oil.
Did the unfinished Fajen walnut stock on the M98 sporter I built for my son over 30 years ago, in tung oil. Still looks good.

On the barrel, first I stripped the blueing off using Navel Jelly. That stuff takes off blueing like nobody's business!! First, I applied a greying solution but the barrel factory Green Mt. texture was to rough. So, I draw-filed it to a smoother finish and then re-applied a Patina solution. Came out great.
The stock was re-done differently than the first go-around. This time I applied two coats of sealer about 15 minutes apart, then let it dry for 24 hours. Then I applied a coating of Chambers Oil Finish....let it dry for another 24 hours......took 0000 steel wool and brushed it all down, and one more coat of Chambers Oil Finish. Another 24 hours and a rub down with 0000 steel wool gave it a nice looking finish.
I'm happy with the re-do. I figure it should last another 40 years....long after I'm gone!!!

That looks really great! I'm preparing to start a T/C 50 cal Hawken style kit for a kid at work. When he told me he had bought this kit for $100 a few years ago and didn't put it together I thought he was talking about a Traditions or CVA. NO! It's a TC. I bought some new files and Dykem and I'll start draw filing the barrel as the weather warms up. I need to work on the back porch as the wife would kill me if I got metal filings in the house. I'll start posting pics when I start.
