Dave, I found this pattern. Is this tied with deer hair or some other hair??
I saw a pattern that looked like the pic that was supposed to imitate mulberries to catch carp where the trees grew near the water. I caught a few carp on flies and even steelhead and big small mouth bass can't compare to the line stripping runs they make-poor man's bone fish.

BTW.....if you google "Mop Flies" you can find flies that are close to what jmorgan's pic is.

Mop flies were all the rage in Montana two summers ago. They are one of the easiest flies one could ever tie.

found pattern and there are others. The guy in the video says steelhead have been caught on them. I never tie them but they'd probably work on freshly stocked trout.

I didn't know carp ate mulberries

I've never fished near any mulberry trees. I've never found any of the trees around here or any place I fish. The carp I have caught have all been on flies I tie for trout. If I ever find a place where the berries are dropping in the water I'd give these a try. Maybe I'll tie some just in case.

I tied a bunch of cork beetles once. Black hackle trimmed on top, cork body slit to slide down over the hook shank and glued on. I fished them a couple times but the cork came of on a couple and I haven fished them since. That was a long time ago but the others are probably in an old fly box somewhere.

I used to have a spot with mulberrys along a creek. The farmer said I could toss the carp on the bank for use as fertilizer.I would fish it with a spinning rod.

Did you use the berries for bait?

Yes.they could really put a bend in the rod. They were schooled up under the bushes.

The only fly reel I ever burned the gear out of was one of Orvis' lower end models(I think it was a Madison?). A carp was the culprit. I have caught a couple using a reel I bought for 9.99 almost 40 years ago and still use as a loaner now.

Deep sea rig is appropiate. They're a good target for bowfishing. You can see the mud boils in a slow stream. They're like pigs rooting in the mud.

It is very possible that opening day will be delayed.

It is very possible that opening day will be delayed. Isn't it already pushed back state wide to the 18th being the one and only openings day like days of old. I honestly see no reason to delay the start. I'm not a huge trout man but I do see it in the south east and south west areas where the virus is the worst, but for the rest of the state I say carry on.

They already pushed the SE opener back. I could see them pushing the statewide date back as well to reduce the shoulder to shoulder stuff that is prevalent on the opener. Of course, some areas of the state are under stay at home orders so that might alleviate some of that occurrence if those orders are still in effect and people listen to them.

Since I buy a WV license, I received an email from the WV DNR. They are "postponing" the statewide stocking of Golden Trout that the do every year. A hatchery in Petersburg, WV is where the "Goldie" was first introduced. They have a single day every year, where they stock nothing but Goldens.
They also said they will NOT issue any dates of future stockings, to try and mitigate initial crowding on streams.

I always wondered how they got golden trout. Then my Grandfather said they just toss the egg from the golden goose....and Whaa-Laaa! Golden trout!

They put more and larger fish in than Pa it seemed at the time. I have a stream in SW Pa that I occasionally fish before our trout season opens up. It is stocked in WV and I have permission to fish a farm right on the border. The stockies move up into the Pa section. I have done pretty well there in the past. Whats nice is it isn't stocked in Pa so it is not an approved trout water so I can legally fish it prior to our opener. Just can't keep any. May have to give it a try to get out of the house.
