At one time, I had 20-25 stands on that property. Less now, for sure.

My first stand has been on the same tree since probably 2001 or 2002. It was a heavy stand and after all that time, is still sturdy and tight. Some surface rust, that's it. The original ratchet strap snapped from the growing tree eventually stressing it.
The newer one isn't quite as rugged, but the coating is better, as it's never rusted at all. It's about six or eight years in the woods by now.
Took the bottom section off and hauled it back to the cabin, when the neighbor had his woods timbered several years ago, because it's only about fifty yards from where they were cutting. Didn't wanta tempt anyone into stealing it and the loggers weren't the most "admirable" folks in the area. Neighbor still claims they hosed him out of quite a bit of timber.
He finally sent 'em packing before they had finished, when they dropped several "junk trees" on his fence up there along my property. He pastures beefers on that parcel part of each year, as there's a good fifty acres of ridgetop pasture on the other side of those woods.
I ain't bringing in stands that cost about $50 apiece (both were marked way down). Too heavy and too much fooling around with them. None of the neighbors are gonna steal them and there ain't gonna be any more logging going on next to me in my lifetime.

I leave my ladderstands up all year, but I do bring in the seat cushions. In the late winter/spring timeframe, I will go around and loosen the ratchets just a little bit, so as the tree grows it won't bust the strap. Every few years I replace the straps. Every fall when I re-tighten the strap, I will move the stand around a little to pull it out of the tree so the tree doesn't grow around it.

Walked up behind a buddy once at Dick's sporting goods. He was looking up at a double stand they had on display. Deluxe, on sale for half price according to the sign. Overhead camo canopy and skirt, below the railing, cushions and was pretty rugged. I said that's a pretty good price. He said you ain't getting it, because I just bought it and I'm waiting for the guy to come back with the step ladder so we can take it down. Discontinued model, so he got a steal. Told him I hoped his wife wasn't getting up in there with him, because it might collapse? He told her and the next time I saw her, she had some really special words for me. I liked ladder stands at one time, but now they're too hard on my ankles and knees coming back down out of 'em. Only ever used a climber once many years ago and that was enough for me.
