Ruger Model 77 Mark II Stainless Steel with the ugly but functional skeleton stock. 7mm Remington Magnum. Leupold VariX II scope in 3-9X. This rifle has been to Alaska, two Canadian Provinces, and several other places and will take whatever weather Ma Nature can dish out. I have had a discussion with the W 1 FE unit and she says I have too many rifles in my overstocked warehouse. She is probably right. A few years ago I purchased a Weatherby Mark V in 7mm Wby Mag. I love that rifle more than this one, so this one is surplus. Asking $600 but any reasonable offer will be considered. This rifle should be used and not languishing in a gun safe.

Jim, I believe you live in northwestern PA. Could we meet somwhere halfway that is convenient to you? I would like to do this sort of thing face to face. As you know, I have a camp in Somerset County. Make it halfway between Somerset and you.

Not right at this minute, griz. The W 1 FE unit is not satisfied with the reduction in inventory just yet, though.

When I had my 25 06 ruger up for sale for 600 it was wood stock I had two people telling me I am asking too much that they could buy one brand new for $450. When I asked them to show me where they couldn't tell me. Wonder why? confused-smiley-013

Not sure, stroupy, but you could check out prices that guns sell for on GunBroker.com. Don't pay much attention to the prices people ask where they don't sell the gun. just look at what the guns actually bring.

Yes. Gun broker prices are usually high. What you need to do is be a Gunbroker member, sign on and the do a search of "Sold firearms" to see what your looking for and what they have actually sold for. Even then look at them with a "jaundice eye" as the prices may be a little high especially if the firearm is a new release.

Plus, you have to factor in the value of Mutley taking this gun to Alaska! I would like to have a stainless Ruger 7mm. Ugly is in the eyes of the beholder.

Alaska was just one place this gun went, Glenn. It also took a black bear in Alberta and one in British Columbia. It is more gun than I need for whitetails, but then I also have a 7mm Weatherby Magnum (A Mark V) that shoots one hole groups. There are features of the Ruger Stainless Steel rifles that I really like, such as a superb safety, excellent accuracy, and durability, not to mention the fact that a week in Alaska weather had no effect at all on the gun. In a pinch it can also be used as a walking stick. Keep your eyes open. They come up for sale on occasion. I would have been just as happy had you or Rick bought this one as I am that Jim is getting it. I wanted it to go to someone who appreciates such stuff and who hopefully might put it to use. I think it is.

I have Winchester model 70's that are far more attractive and more accurate and my elk rifle a Whetherby 30-378 that shoots 30 caliber bullets through one hole at a hundred yards and yet hits with more foot pounds than a chevy truck at five hundred yards. But these old "boat paddles" are my favorite, they are butt ugly, and always shoot the same when its 10 below zero or 95 degrees above, all a man that "hunts" needs, they are a great find, if you can find them.

But topped with mounts and a Leupold scope, let's just say that I would have asked a bit more than $600.

Stroupy, I've sold four Ruger M77's minus scopes and I could never get more than $500 for one.

What a day, I met George at noon for the guy swap, what a great guy, he made a good deal, sweeter by throwing in a couple boxes of shells and a copy of his second book, we talked for while in a parking lot before he headed to camp, he's the kind of guy I could talk to for hours, he even had a couple kind words for some of you folks. With luck I will get to St, Thomas for a longer visit, and if any of are in the area look him up, he's one of the good ones.
