We got the 10 gauge H&R that Dutch sold us out for pheasants. Didn't see any but the boy said despite the weight of the gun it balances in the hand and is pleasant to carry. He wants to take it out some more.We then took it to the range and the 50 yard patterns are impressive.

He loves it! He fired it five times at the range today and he was still good enough to fire a bunch of 12 gauge. He's talking about doing most of his shotgun hunting with it.

Youthful enthusiasm! I try not to discourage it. Now he is thinking I need to get a big 10 so we can dedicate this season to only 10 gauges.

Mess: That H&R handles like a 2x6. If you take it for pheasants let them fly for about ten minutes before you pull the trigger, otherwise you will end up with pheasant confetti. Your son must be a hulk.

Well, it doesn't handle like a fine double barrel, I'll give you that.

Yes. Its a single shot. I too am growing right fond of the 10 gauge. Less recoil than the 3 1/2" 12 gauge (because the 12 is loaded to considerably higher pressures) but at the same time it patterns better that the 12.

Your son must be a hulk. Much thanks to you for your role in getting this to us. And at least the boy won't be using something as weak as a 28 gauge on pheasants. I was told you'd understand that.

I'm just waiting.... he'll have a good come back to that one, for sure. Might take him a few days to come up with one, but he will.

I call mine the Tack Hammer of Diana, (Roman goddess of the hunt). That 10 has less recoil because of it's weight. If you ever duck hunt out of a boat it can double as an anchor. The 28 is fine for Phez as it has already proven itself on turkey. I reload it for phez and only put in about a dozen No. 6's. A bag of shot lasts forever. Have fun with Thor. You might want to look into a nice Spanish 10 gauge double. Now that would be a nice handling gun for phez.

About ten years ago a guy at the trap range asked me if I would be interested in his 10 gauge double. Ironically I was shooting a 28 gauge that day. Anyway, it was a Spanish double and I figured $250 was a heck of a good price. I only passed because I didn't want anything to do with 10 gauges. Now that Chris got me shooting his I realize its not so scary and yeah, I want my own for Turkey and Geese.
