I spent a couple hours on Sat morning on a high ridge in Potter. Along the edge of a clearcut, but back off a little. Had 3 does come in from behind me as they headed for the thicket to bed down. Only the second time I've sat in that spot, but saw der each time, heading the same way.
In the evening, I sat on the ground along the food plot where I got pics of various nice bucks. Had a deer snort at 5:15 back in the woods. Half hour before quitting time, had one snort WAY off. I don't know what had that one spooked. Bear? Yote? Don't think it was me.
When I got up to leave, I heard what sounded like maybe a deer got up and took a jup, maybe 30 yds away.
So thick there you can't see 10 yds.
Not sure when I'll get back up to chase/educate them again.

Saw a 7 point, maybe a two year old and let him go. A doe and another buck that I didn't get a good look at but could have been the 7 point. Saw a bear on the way out. I only hunted the morning. I won't be out this saturday but maybe half a day on Monday since it's a holiday

Saw a monster 10 tonight. He was 30 yards to the left of my stand. He was an easy 140. I'll be looking for him again. I left stand early due to rain, but he didn't make me. If I can get him 20 or closer he's mine.

Skunked again this evening. Nothing coming to my foodplot now until 3:00AM on the trail cam pics and gone by 6:00AM. Really strange, full month of non stop daytime pics. Starting about 1 day before season, 100% nocturnal.

Starting about 1 day before season, 100% nocturnal. Food plots are a curse. People think they are a sure bet, when they really aren't. Last year we had a camera on an apple tree at our big food plot. During the season, I don't think we had a deer on that camera in daylight. They partied all night long, but a half hour before sunrise, gone. I got pics of bucks in a clearcut up top at dusk, and 2 hours later they showed up in the plot, 1/2 mile away.

Dutch - The only thing that kills me is that I have about 1,000 pictures in 1.5 months on that plot in the daylight. Friday Sept 28th they start coming in at 3am and that pattern is still the case now. Obviously other factors involved here.

You said you had trespassers. I wil suggest that just "ordinary" preseason scouting is enough to put them of their schedule.
Just people walking in the area, be it you or trespassers can be the cause.
An expert onc told me do not enter your hunting woods until October 20th, and later than that if possible. You don't want to educate the does, because if you do, both sexes will be elsewhere come the rut.
It makes some sense.

I think we need to check our trail cams at midnight to 3 AM, sending them at least diurnal rather than the noctournal creatures they become

Well what did I see, I'll remember the rest of my life!! Last archery season my two G-son's had their first archery season. Pop Pop sat in treestand wishin and hopein. I showed them so much leadin up to this. I showed them where and why to put a stand in a certin place. I made them put up their own ladder stands, all good so far. They shoot compounds and they shoot very well I must say. Well last year my older G-son came over 2 way with Pop Pop I got one. OMG I held back tears for sure and went to help . I showed them both on hands and knee's how to find blood. So last night my younger guy said over the 2 way Pop and that's all I heard I was off to his stand. He shot 55LB. compound with a Rage broad head at a buck. He was alittle like me he got the shakes. We I mean him most tracked blood found arrow blood half way up shaft and now more blood. Up ahead he looks and say's there he is and we were in dark now with flash lights. Nice trophy 4 pt. layed out. When I gutted him a nice slice through the heart. I'm a lucky man. Didn't mean to go on, but that's what I saw so far....later

got out for only about an hour this evening, did jump a doe going in and saw a deer moving thru the thick stuff but couldn't tell what it was ---I hunt from the ground so if it doesn't wonder into one of my shooting lanes I can't really get a good look at em. Going out again tomorrow.
