Pretty accurate in my opinion.I think the hunting is better than ever but my view is simply a matter of perspective.

My hunting is worse than ever. I just hunted deer for four months without killing one. I was just talking to my wife last night about giving it up altogether

But I'll be back on my stump again next year, God willing.

A guy I know who has a Camp near me gave it up this year. He said he's tired of going out and not seeing anything. First time he didn't buy license and he's in his mid 50's

I didn't hunt near as hard this year as I usually do. I'll be close to 78 next season and probably won't hard as hard as I did this year. Doesn't matter much any more if I get one or not, just happy to be there. Actually I would be happy just to stay at camp during bear season while the gang hunts. Don't get me wrong, I still like being out there, but I no longer do anything hard or walk any distance. Most of the time I'm not much further tan a couple hundred yards from my truck in either big game season. Actually I have a place on the mountain ground I own and hunt, where I can drive my truck and park it 40 yards from where I sit. I even see deer there now and then.🤣

Article pretty much sums up the evolution of hunting trends comparing yesteryear vs today.
This was rare year where I didn’t fill a tag least a doe. It was also a year that I spent fewer days hunting days due to unplanned family priorities. It was also a good year otherwise where I’m already looking to the upcoming season! Keep the ole spirit up Mike! Those Sully hills will be calling you before you know it!😀

My brother spent the second week hunting the state Forest of Tioga County, and saw nothing.
A friend and his crew put on drives on the state Forest of Tioga and Potter and did well.

I am 82 now, and still enjoy hunting. I did not see all that many deer this past season, but still enjoyed it and killed one. That makes the year a success. I'm not griping about not seeing as many, since I can't get around as well as in the past. Most of my deer hunting is within a quarter mile or so of the cabin. The guys who can cover more ground see more deer. I was at the cabin to meet with a logger on Sunday. We walked the ten or so acres we are getting selective cut, and I was amazed at how much deer sign (scrapes, scat and tracks etc.) we saw, much of it within a hundred yards of one of our stands. Why don't the guys sitting that stand see many deer? Maybe they do all of this stuff at night?

My problem is I've spent every Saturday since September (and three Sundays) hunting and have nothing to show for it. Also took a weeks vacation in there. I simply haven't done anything else with my free time for four months and my freezers empty and I'm burned out. I have to reevaluate and decide if I want to keep investing this amount of time into hunting or maybe just only hunt the gun seasons and give up all the archery/muzzleloader stuff

I'm getting to old to do it right. You get out of hunting what you put into it. I had a good season this year, but its getting tougher and tougher hunting how I'm accustomed to.

I'm at the point where I spend more days on the water vs in the woods. Sorta funny....while I'm out in the woods freezing/seeing nuttin I'm dreaming about a beautiful day on the water doing a slow drift flounder fishing...... and while flounder fishing I'm dreaming about that buck of a lifetime!! I guess as along as I can still dream....I'm still having fun!!

My hunting is worse than ever. I just hunted deer for four months without killing one. I was just talking to my wife last night about giving it up altogether I used to drive an hour and twenty minutes one way to archery hunt for two hours in the evenings. Sounds like deer numbers are quite low where you are spending the majority of your time. If getting a deer is a priority, you have to make better use of your time. If just being out in the woods is more important than harvesting a deer, then the allure of the local hills should win out. Where I hunt now, deer numbers were low when I started hunting. I didn't hunt there but several hours north of there decades ago. During EHD outbreaks these days, I go to the deer and don't spend my time hunting areas with few of them.

I could do all my hunting(outside of bear & turkey) in my mom's woodland in York County and kill all the deer my freezers could hold....guaranteed!! She sees them in her backyard almost everyday. If that was my "deer hunting"..... I would immediately hang deer hunting up. I used to hunt small game & crows there but with the area now much more built-up.....you can't escape that continual human noise pollution etc. There's no safety zone issues once you leave her field going into the woodland but not for me. Same goes for Opening Day "elbow to elbow" trout fishing. Like they say "to each their own" as we all have different expectations from our time spent enjoying our playtime!

I can care less about taking a deer, and done with taking Doe. Can no longer pull the trigger. I actually prefer not to even harvest a buck, and the effort I put forth proves it. LOL. If a dumb one shows up it shows up. I have between 9 and 12 friends hunting my place most every year, mostly older if you consider all well in their 60's and 70's as older. I'd rather see them take one, and of course my son. That all said, I was never a real big deer hunter. Definitely more of a fisherman, and the gap getting much wider by the year.

If that was my "deer hunting"..... I would immediately hang deer hunting up. That is what is great about choices. You prefer being away from the hustle and bustle and getting a deer is secondary. I was talking to one of the guys I hunt with about doing a weekend up in the ANF during rifle deer season. I have not hunted the big woods often but it has been tugged at me.

My BIL is like that. He'd rather get nothing in Sullivan county than fill tags around home. Of course he usually gets a buck so that makes it easy to stand on that principle

I'm thinking of booking a Sika deer hunt at the ESOS Saturday Good luck if you go. I was talking to a friend of mine who did it a few times about 10 years ago. He got a doe on one hunt and a spike stag on the other. Muddy Marsh seems to be the one everybody talks about but he said their reputation has gone downhill lately.

I used to get burned out, and burned up. LOL I actually prefer to shoot a doe, but that has been curtailed due to numbers. I now look forward to rifle season because it's MY season, no one else involved. That said, I convinced the girls to come up to hunt the first Sunday, and that was very enjoyable, especially when Adriana got her first buck, a small spike. Makes hunting exciting again. I hope you have success in Perry. Maybe skip Sullivan this year? Concentrate on Perry?

I'd love to concentrate on Perry. But my Son is not having it. He only wants to hunt it the second week of Rifle. It's his inlaws so I wouldn't be comfortable hunting there without him

My youngest worked at Phipps conservatory and botanical gardens in Pittsburgh for a while after college. He claims he saw some beautiful bucks right around there. We visited the orchid show there this past Saturday and right near the side walk between two buildings there was a buck rub on a 6 or 8 inch juniper tree. He sees a lot of deer in his travels right around the city.
Like everywhere else in the state, too many deer where there's little or no hunting pressure, including posted lands, and too few once hunting pressure starts on lands that are open. The PGC has an impossible job making everyone happy.
