Been out scouting before work every day for the past week or so and a few weekends. I got some regulars I have been watching and quite a few birds that have been sporadic in their gobbling and locations. Got a blind already set for the opener.

Hoping to get to Sullivan County camp week of 5/16. Opener up there looks to be in the high 20's Saturday followed with cold temps following week. Likely still some snow cover on the higher ridges.

Already been turkey time. LOL. Killed a jake last Sunday in Ohio. Quick hunt as I ended up setting up almost right on top of him. Saw him fly down, then made a couple of calls and he came right in. Done in Ohio as they went to a 1 bird limit this year.

Weather looks to be perfect for the opener. Probably be some hen problems for the first half of the season in this corner of the state as spring is a bit behind here.

My most regular group of gobblers has gone AWOL the last three days. That is a bummer. They were quite regular on my morning scouting trips before work. Might have to make a move to plan B.

Hey Loggy, that snow was gone the next day! It sure left a hell of a mess behind, (trees and power lines down), but I never even plowed the 9 + inches, that we got. By noon time it had collapsed to about 4-5 inches and within 24 hours it was 1 - 2 inches on the ground. We were picnicking at World's End four days later.

I had a great day in the spring woods but unfortunately I did not punch a tag. Sat in the blind from 515 till 12. My set up as about right under a few birds. At fly down, three hens and three jakes worked into my setup but the longbeard held up at 40 yards strutting. I won't shoot an arrow that far at a turkey so I hoped he would work in, which he didn't. I heard sporadic gobbling on and off then at 9:30 two gobblers were working a few hens across a hill about 150 yards from me. With the late leaf out this year, I was able to watch them in the binoculars. One was a mature gobbler with a full fan but he was completely missing his beard. They answered me every time but they were occupied.
After a lull, I believe it was those same birds that fired up again at 11:15 and they began to work my way. I assume the hens went off to lay. Into the creek bottom they went and up onto my side by 11:30. I thought they were gonna walk right into my lap but they both hung up about behind me at about 80 yards. After gobbling their heads off it became apparent I was gonna run out of time as they never budged by noon. I quietly gathered my gear and left them gobbling for another day.

Did a quick hunt before work today. Had some gobblers that I was seeing about every morning leading up to the opener but they started to become inconsistent last week. Well today, I snuck in there and never heard a peep. I guess I will just keep on eye on the area and see if they show back up. The highlight of the morning was lip squeaking in a red fox to 10 yards.

Went to Michigan this past weekend. Missed the Saturday...which is no big deal, and too fatigued to go out today. I'll get out this week.....but I really have more desire to fly fish for trout than to whack a Gobbler.

Many turkey shotgun snobs are going to the 20 gauge with TSS 9 shot. Apparently they are getting the same performance with this load as the typical 12 gauge 6 shot lead 3 inch turkey loads. Kicks less and lighter to carry as well. Actually the latest craze is 410 with TSS shot for gobblers.
