There have been serious declines in so many species, when you look at it. It's disheartening. When I used to sit on stand in archery season, you'd see little voles or mice running around, I don't see that anymore. Barely see Chipmunks anymore. Look at muskrat populations over the last 40 years, went from over abundance to very few. Oh, and the other day a report was released about how bird populations have declined over the last 50 years. Something is out of whack and the environment is telling us that, if we listen. . Depends on the area. Most areas around here have more deer then we did 5 years ago and turkey populations are still good but down some from when we had to many. Bear populations are getting to high and I’m hoping the extra seasons help this problem.

Over the summer and the last few weeks, I ride up over our ridge every few mornings. This year I saw turkeys in 90 percent of my rides. Saw more turkey than deer. I must be East of the West Nile virus.

Saw 9 yesterday on the road into camp, after the wife and I returned from leaf peaking on route 6. Don't know when was the last time I saw that many in that area.

Turkey everywhere yesterday in my hunting spots. Dang birds made all the deer nervous. They picked me out of a tree at 60 yards. Started putting and the deer followed them right out of the valley.
