Tiadaghton! My brother just put his other English Setter down on Friday, and now, we have a new addition to the family! I think her official name will be "Long Gone Tiadaghton". Her father's name was Long Gone and her mother came from the same line as his other dog, Frost. So, he's pretty tickled about it, and so am I!

Have had setters since I was twelve. I did own one once wasn't what you'd call 'good looking'...unless you consider what he did in the field Personally, I think if they 'show' three colors they're one of the best looking of all dogs. The 'new' pup above..no exception.

I think we will have to keep an eye on JohnS when we are up at the club with her. I'm afraid he's gonna take her home with him!

There are dogs and then there are English setters. Great choice and a great looking pup. I had some setters that had Verle Farrow's great setter Long Gone Sam in the pedigree. Any relation?

I don't know Mutt. The father was from Long Gone Kennels in New Hampshire. Perhaps some of the same blood, but who knows?

Way back in the 1970s I had the opportunity to run one of my setters, Rippantare Tamerlane whom we called "Spot," in a horseback all age trial in Virginia. We won it and got posession of the Long Gone Sam trophy for a year. Spot was the only setter in the stake with a whole bunch of English pointers. I doubt that Long Gone Kennels in NH would have a connection. Verle Farrow raised big running setters that he competed with the pointers. Your dog probably came out of hunting stock and hopefully is not bred to run out of sight like the field trial dogs are. Still, some of the best grouse hunting I ever had was over Spot. He seemed to be able to tell when I wanted him to win a race to birds and when I just wanted to shoot some, so he adjusted accordingly. It has been said that a man gets one really great dog in his lifetime and he should appreciate it when that dog shows up. I have been lucky to have at least two of them that were hunters and one for sure that was just a house dog.

That 'connected' pedigree thing works with humans, too, Mutt:) The Delaware Native Americans said, spelling should be checked, "Elan Ku-mankh-wa "..."we are ALL related". Yes, it is a small world...but it is a very large universe:)

Just got some chukars to put out tomorrow to get the idea in her head. Should be fun. No guns involved, just birds and bird smell. Hope she enjoys her first day afield!

Seems like the pup has a very good nose on her.
My brother put out 5 chukars in Sunday and she found all of them, no problem.
One flushed, and she watched where it went, and hunted it up and found it, and not where THEY thought it went. LOL
Grouse28 has his hands full with this one, but, he's enjoying it.
Next, they will be getting some quail for their dogs to train on.
